You saw it on TV, heard about it on the radio, read about it in the newspapers, magazines etc. Now you can see all that stuff in person, the capital of our great country awaits your visit. See the Capitol Building, see Washington at night, a beautiful site, not commonly seen by the casual tourist, the tour starts at 8PM on Friday. Visit some of the monuments, view some of the others. Drive down the famous Constitution Avenue, see Pennsylvania Avenue where all the parades take place. Drive by the White House, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and then visit some lesser known sites, like the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception one of the largest churches in the Eastern Hemisphere followed by a tour of the Franciscan Monastery with its underground tunnels modeled after the catacombs in Rome. The Saturday tour leaves the hotel at about 10 AM. Then if you want stay an extra day, use our metro system to go downtown on your own and visit all the sites that you want, most are free of charge, newer ones have a charge. Sunday evening we will have a quiet dinner at Historic Gadsby's Tavern to let you relax and come down from the high of being here. Believe me this is a trip for all people, the only problem is you do not have enough time.
Our hotel, the Crown Plaza, on N. Fairfax Street, is located in Old Town Alexandria Virginia. There is free parking. Some rooms have a view of the city of Washington, the Washington Monument and the Potomac River. A biking/walking trail all the way to Mount Vernon passes behind the hotel. Free transportation to and from Reagan National Airport, which is about 5 minutes away, also to King Street where there are many shops and restaurants of all types, and to the Metro system. There are walking tours available of the area. One further comment, it is not recommended to drive to downtown, parking is expensive and very limited. There is very little on street parking.
Come meet other cacers from the Washington DC club, your friendly and helpful host, as well as those from other clubs of the East and Midwest. Hope to see your there!!!!! Be there or be square!!!!
