Spring 2007 Midwest Regional Weekend |
|
THE CATHOLIC ALUMNI CLUB OF CHICAGO What is Chicago's leading tourist attraction? It's not the Art Institute. It's not the Downtown "Museum Campus" - the Adler Planetarium, Field Museum, and the Shedd Aquarium. It's not even the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field. Chicago's leading tourist attraction is Woodfield Mall, in Chicago's Northwest Suburbs. At Woodfield Mall and the surrounding shopping area, you can buy almost everything. The only stores that are missing are a hobby shop, Catholic religious goods store, and a Toyota dealer. The Catholic Alumni Club of Chicago invites you to "Sweet Home Chicago", the 2007 Spring Midwest Regional. The regional convention takes place Memorial Day Weekend - May 25 - 28, 2007 at the AmeriSuites in Schaumburg, Illinois. The AmeriSuites is a new all suites hotel - the rooms are huge - that is scheduled for additional remodeling in early 2007. The hotel has a fitness center and pool. We'll be two blocks from Woodfield Mall and across the street from Ikea. The AmeriSuites offers shuttle service that connects with trains to downtown Chicago, making all of Chicago's cultural assets available to see on your own. Highlights of the weekend include a tournament at Medieval Times (included in your package) and the traditional Sunday Night Dinner Dance (black tie optional - Ladies May Wear Hats). If you were in Chicago for the 2001 Spring Regional, you may remember the rainout at Wrigley Field. We'll be going to U. S. Cellular Field to see the White Sox; and hopefully the sun will shine. Other tours are being planned, including trips to the Chicago Botanic Garden and to the Brookfield Zoo. The package price as of press time is $ 295.00, double occupancy. This includes three nights lodging, Medieval Times on Saturday, the Sunday dinner dance, two after hours parties, and three breakfasts. There will be Masses on Sunday and Monday; the Monday Mass will honor CACers who are veterans, both living and deceased. Additional nights are available. According to the Places Rated Almanac, Chicago is ranked number 1 for transportation in North America; it's a major hub for American Airlines, Amtrak, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines. Everyone in the continental United States can get a good air fare to Chicago. Or they can drive; the hotel is at the intersection of Interstates 90 and 290 northwest of Chicago and ten miles from O'Hare Field. Amtrak and Greyhound also serve Chicago. Make your plans now for "Sweet Home Chicago" next Spring. For more information, call Kevin Brown, (847) 358-6036, e-mail ktb4489@hotmail.com. P. S. Priests need vacation too! Here's an opportunity for your Chaplain to enjoy a holiday vacation in Chicago. CACI's Midwest Region will be offering special discounted rates for Club Chaplains attending the 2007 Spring Midwest Regional. These rates give Chaplains a discount of approximately 20%; Chaplains pay $ 225.00, double occupancy. So, say "Thank You" to your Club's Chaplain for all he has done for you and invite him to "Sweet Home Chicago" in May, 2007.
